Job description
Ki3 Photonics is a high-tech company dedicated to pushing the boundaries of quantum technologies. We design the hardware and software that form the backbone of quantum networks operating over standard telecom fiber. As a dynamic and rapidly growing company, we are looking for a skilled technician who can take a system combining optics, electronics, and mechanics from a blank CAD sheet to a finished, rack-mounted instrument.
What you will actually build
You will be responsible for end-to-end integration projects. Concretely: take an optical source, a set of fiber components, and control electronics, and transform them into a fully packaged, field-ready instrument where the mechanical housing, optics, electronics, and firmware-related hardware all work together.
This position is for you if you have
Integrated or packaged fiber components and lasers into finished products. Fiber splicing/termination, alignment, coupling, and connectorization hold no secrets for you
Designed mechanical enclosures and optical mounts in CAD (SolidWorks, Onshape, or similar), from concept to manufacturable parts
Designed and drawn printed circuit boards (ECAD) and understand how electronics, firmware, and optics interact in a real-world instrument
Worked with lasers, optical test equipment, and standard electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, etc.), comfortable troubleshooting across multiple disciplines
Mentored or led other technical staff. You will guide a small team of CAD/mechanical technicians, reviewing their mechanical designs and integrating the optical/electrical requirements they might not have considered
Additional assets
Experience within a Quebec photonics company
Knowledge of CNC machining, 3D printing for prototyping, packaging of integrated optics
Experience with quantum or atomic systems, or precision optical references
Why Ki3
We are a small, agile team working at the cutting edge of quantum photonics, with real hardware and concrete deployments (research labs, telecommunications, defense). Your work will make all the difference between a good idea and a delivered product. You will have a real influence on how our instruments are built.
