Distriq, Quantum Innovation Zone, announces the launch of QV Studio and its partnership with Quantonation Ventures and ACET.
Sherbrooke, Canada
·
The Quantum Studio supports emerging entrepreneurs with a support infrastructure specifically designed to enable innovators in the field of quantum technologies to conduct research, develop, and refine their projects with the aim of developing new technological solutions that are useful for the market.
Quantum companies have specific characteristics that necessitate the creation of a complete ecosystem: academic excellence, infrastructure, a vast pool of talent, access to non-dilutive private funding, and public support. The Quantum Studio of DistriQ, Quantonation, and ACET will bring these elements together to support quantum startups in becoming global leaders with the support of the Quantum Institute of the University of Sherbrooke.
The investment from Quantonation is a natural evolution to strengthen its presence, since 2018, in the Sherbrooke ecosystem. Since its first investment in Nord Quantique, several companies in the portfolio have positioned their operations within DistriQ to take advantage of its world-class quantum infrastructure and talents. The Quantum Studio will create a pipeline of high-quality transactions for the quantum industry.
Christophe Jurczak, General Director of Quantonation Ventures, stated: “The Quantum Studio meets a significant need to reduce risks and accelerate the creation of companies arising from research in quantum technologies and deep physics, by strengthening the pipeline of investment opportunities in the fields of computing, communications, and detection. Our investment in the Quantum Studio is a strategic decision based on the very positive progress we have made in working with DistriQ and its wealth of quantum talents in the innovation area. We anticipate several initiatives of this kind in the major quantum ecosystems around the world, which will be connected. We are committed to supporting innovators with absolute certainty that the solutions developed will become powerful solutions offering significant business advantages.”
DistriQ effectively combines research, education, entrepreneurship, and industry, fostering a world-class environment conducive to quantum innovation, for example:
Quantum Space 1, which will open in Sherbrooke in early fall 2023. This 50,000 square foot (4,600 square meters) building will be the largest and most comprehensive commercial quantum center in the world. It brings together the leading specialists in quantum technologies and the best-equipped commercial quantum development laboratories.
The University of Sherbrooke - has world-renowned expertise in quantum science and quantum technologies and actively contributes to training a highly qualified workforce in this critical sector within the Quantum Institute.
An innovative technology and manufacturing sector to enable entrepreneurs to accelerate the market introduction of innovative solutions.
Richard St-Pierre, General Director of DistriQ, quantum innovation zone, added: “The Quantum Studio is a powerful and unprecedented new step to accelerate quantum innovation. By providing quantum scientists and entrepreneurs with a world-leading global platform that meets their ambitions, we empower them to successfully realize their transformative ideas. We are extremely proud to be part of this leap forward in the evolution of the quantum field and proud to strengthen ties with Quantonation Ventures, the world leader in quantum investment. We expect other Quebec financial funds and partners to join the initiative in the coming months ”.
